Women in Camden won’t get paid again this year. Across the UK women working full-time are paid 17.1% less per hour than men – that’s equivalent to men being paid all year round while women work for free after October 30. In London , the figure for full and part-time workers combined is more than 25% – so on that count women in Camden have been working for nothing since the end of August.
The Government has pledged to tackle the gender pay gap through the Equality Bill, now being debated by MPs. But they have stepped away from effective action. The Green Party is calling for medium and large companies to be forced to conduct pay audits, and publish the results, and for unions and others to be able to take joint action in demanding equal pay.
Without those measures, both the Fawcett Society and major unions say, the Bill will fail to deliver equal pay for women. Camden Green Party believes that is just not good enough to allow the current situation to continue, and would urge all readers to sign the petition at
