John Collins, Highgate Green Party member, writes:
I see the Lib Dems’ website for Holborn and St Pancras still claims to show “Result from the last General Election here in this constituency”, listing votes received in 2005 for Labour, Lib Dems and Tories, but ignoring the 8% who voted Green.
I have news for them – it’s now 2010, and “here in this constituency” means an area much larger than it was in 2005, because of boundary changes. It now includes two extra wards – but the Lib Dems don’t tell us that.
Could it be because they don’t want to admit these are wards where the Lib Dems do badly in council elections? Gospel Oak is where all three seats were Tory in 2006, and Highgate is where all three seats were Green after a by-election in 2008 when the Lib Dems came fourth.
So this time it’s a four-horse race in the new enlarged constituency of Holborn and St Pancras, and there’s everything to play for – even using the discredited system of first past the post.
